The return of Beavis and Butthead on Paramount+ will come with a remastered version of 200 original shows from the unique MTV phenomenon.
However, for Guest rooms fans, even better news: videos may be back.
DVD releases of the animated hit removed the show’s daily bread, with the two teenage dopes mocking the music videos, due to legal permission issues with the videos.
Beavis and Butthead Creator mike judges recount Collider he missed them too. “[A] a lot of the things I’m most proud of are comments on music videos,” he says.
“At first I was like, ‘Oh, people watch MTV because they want to watch the videos. They’re not going to want these guys talking about any of this stuff. Which I was wrong about.
Judge adds of the remastered shows, “…I hear different things. Apparently…they might be able to get it to just play like they did originally with all the videos in them. It’s a bit of the rhythm and what I liked. So, I hope to get that.
Obviously, since Paramount+ and MTV share a parent company in Paramount Media Networks, legal issues with videos are more easily resolved.
The office space and Idiocracy veteran adds of the new shows, which debut August 4, “They’re now watching YouTube videos and TikTok videos, which has been a lot of fun to do.”
He adds, “We have episodes where they are middle-aged. Butt-Head is just this useless big old guy. They receive all kinds of government aid. They’re a burden on society, but it’s great fun to do. And old Beavis and Butt-Head watch music videos too.
