AURORA, Colorado – Two buses carrying crew members of a country group and an independent group were involved in a crash with two tractor-trailers on a foggy and rainy stretch of Interstate 70 to E-470 on Friday morning, leaving 12 injured, Colorado declared state patrol. The accident happened at around 8:20 a.m. when the CSP said that a 1998 Prevost bus overturned a Freightliner semi-trailer that had been stopped in traffic. The driver of the semi-trailer said there was extreme fog at the time of the accident.

The bus then struck a FedEx tractor-trailer and the trailer of a second bus before coming to a stop on all lanes of traffic. The driver of the first bus, John Crawford, 41, was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries. Eight passengers were also taken to the University Hospital with minor to moderate injuries and three other passengers were taken to Aurora Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries. No one on the second bus or either semi-trailer needed to be taken to the hospital. Twin Shadow performed in Lawrence, Kan. On Thursday night and was scheduled to perform Friday night at Bluebird Theater in Denver. The show has since been canceled, according to the blue bird.
The second bus carried crew members of the country group Thompson Place, which performed in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday night and is still scheduled to perform after the All-Star Rodeo at the National Western Stock Show Arena in Denver on Friday night. Groups did not travel together. The CSP said drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, citing fog and weather conditions as contributing factors. The westbound I-70 remained closed early Friday afternoon as crews scrambled to remove the bus and debris.
